Five Jobs for the Smallest Systainer

The Systainer³ XXS is small enough that the question is not what fits in it, but how many different things you end up wanting one for. This user came away from the Maine Woodworking event with a free XXS, went looking for jobs to give it, and sent photos of five.

The first two XXS are for radio control: a spare steering servo with the horns and hardware to fit it to different cars, and a second box of the assorted pieces a hobby generates — servo arms, an idler gear, shock mounts, screws, rod end ball cups.

The third is the one every shop needs and few have: a current-project box. Right now it holds the bolts, washers and brass threaded inserts for a tool cabinet build, so the hardware for the thing being built sits in one sealed container instead of four coffee cans.

The fourth is the cleverest, and it only works because the lid seals.

while hand-cutting dovetails for drawers recently I had a few pieces break out and a sealed box seems a good way to not lose them, and after assembly I can glue the little pieces in and the dovetails will look perfect!

The fifth started with an empty box of bandages.

I have literally just grabbed the last bandaid out of its cardboard box and thought that the XXS Systainer would be a great personal first aid kit. I got a few bandaids from our bathroom closet for my shop supply and tossed them in the Systainer you gave me at the event. It also occurred to me that I could add a label just like on the larger systainers — I’ve not done that before. A little piece of blue tape was easy to cut to size.

That last detail is the whole system in miniature. The XXS carries the same label recess as every case above it, so a scrap of blue tape and a marker does what a printed label does on an M 137 — and the box reads the same way on a shelf full of its siblings.
