Organizer Insert Box Labels

3D Print, Systainer³ Organizer L, Custom Labeling

I do 3D printing as a hobby, and a lot of the projects that I make require some kind of hardware, typically metric hardware. The most common parts are various kinds of fasteners in the M3 size. Some use the larger M4, and a small handful have needed M2. I was buying hardware assortments on Amazon, which are quick and economical, but what I found was that the divided boxes they came in were typically poor quality with dividers that would let the sizes intermix. Not good! I also quickly ran out of the most-used sizes, and then when I ordered more of that one size, they came in larger numbers than the original assortment, so I no longer had a good place to put them.

As a Systainer fan, I immediately decided to use the Organizer boxes with the smallest bin size. I’ve used these for other hardware and tools before, and while I appreciate that the bins have a slot for a label with a clear cover, I’ve found that those labels can be hard to read when the box is on a table and you’re looking down on it. So I designed a 3D-printable label holder that would make the labels easier to see while not interfering with access to the contents or getting in the way of the Systainer lid.

These are designed to be used with 9mm (0.35”) P-Touch labels. I made them in four versions with 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90° of upward tilt on the label face. They fit tightly into the exiting label slot on the organizer’s bins, and can actually act as little handles to assist in lifting the bins out if needed. For my own organizers, I decided to use the 90° tilt (which makes the labels horizontal) because that’s easiest to read through the clear Systainer lid, and with the small parts I’m using, having the label protrude is not an issue at all.

The files on Printables include the variants listed above, plus a parametric Fusion 360 model with adjustable angles and adjustable label sizes.
