A finisher’s kit is not one tool. It is two or three sanders, a dozen grits in four different backings, interface pads, pad savers, a hose, and a light to see whether any of it worked. It has to come off a van and into somebody’s half-finished kitchen without a second trip.

SurfPrep made that the exhibit. Rather than a table of sanders, they parked a trailer in the booth and fitted the corner of it out the way a working one would be: a bott rack carrying systainers, bott shelves and bottBoxes.

Two kits, two sizes, stacking together

The 3” x 4” kit is the one for profiles and rails — the small rectangular pad that gets into a cope-and-stick door where a disc cannot. Its case holds the sander plus the FILMTEK-style film sheets and the foam pads standing on edge in blue foam, so you pull a grit out the way you would pull a file from a folder.

The 5” kit is the flat-work one: random orbital, a stack of foam-backed discs, and a divider keeping the cord out of the abrasives. Different sander, different consumables, same case footprint — which is the point. They stack on each other, and both stack on whatever else is already in the rack.

Sanding is the job everybody does and nobody stores well. Doing it out of a rack in a trailer, rather than out of the cardboard box the sander came in, is most of the difference.
